Extended ADAG formula by incorporating the role of glycation at the bone marrow (GLYBMATH)
The ADAG (A1C-derived average glucose) formula is an equation used in clinical practice relating the values of glycated hemoglobin to average blood glucose levels. It helps in the monitoring of diabetic patients. However, it has the limitation that when extrapolated to low averaged glucose values it still provides high glycated hemoglobin levels, the so-called intercept values that appear to contradict biochemistry-based mathematical models. GLYBMATH aims to obtain data to resolve this paradox and improve the ADAG formula.
Where is it being implemented?
The protocol is in preparation and will be submitted to the Hospital de Jerez ethics committee.
What data do we collect?
Glycation levels of erythroblasts, erythrocytes and granulocytes in blood and in bone marrow from volunteer patients.
What are the expected benefits for patients?
Improving the accuracy of the ADAG formula may lead to better monitoring of diabetic patients.
When will the results be available?
Data collection is expected to take place during 2019 and results from the analysis and mathematical modeling from 2020.
