Mathematical model of cancer with competition

In this paper we present a model of tumor based on the use of an autonomous system of ordinary differential equations (ODE). The model assumes that normal cells and cancer cells coexist in an environment as two different species which compete for nutrients and space. The immune system and the tumor cells fight against each other. The analysis of the linear stability of the fixed points of the model yields to two groups of solutions. In the first one, the immune system wins against the tumor cells, so the cancer disappears. In the second one, the cancer grows until some fixed level and then stabilizes. ©2009 American Institute of Physics
