Microenvironmental Regulation of Tumor Invasion

Tumor growth and invasion are highly regulated by properties of the tumor microenvironment. We have tried to find out how physical properties such as collagen fiber orientation and tissue stiffness as well as the density of oxygen affect invasive properties of the tumor. We used a random walk model to study the problem in cellular scale and our findings might be useful to improve tumor-associated collagen signature prognostic assay.
At tissue scale, we used reaction-diffusion equations. Based on our result on this part, it seems that tumor microenvironment can impose different irregularities on tumor border and different scaling behavior may appear as a result of internal features of tumor cells and external conditions.
